Santa Croce Lake

A natural body of water that reflects mount Alpago and Nevegal, Santa Croce Lake is the second largest basin of the Veneto region.  The lake is found at the gates of Belluno for those coming from the central eastern area of the Veneto region.

The lakeshore touches the municipalities of Farra d'Alpago, Puos d'Alpago and Ponte nelle Alpi. Towns and villages that populate the banks still have examples of the typical architecture of houses with terraced roofs covered in slabs of stone, straw and marsh reeds. In late autumn and spring its waters are coloured with fishing boats filled with an abundance of carp, pike, chub, trout and perch.

The tourist structures of the area satisfy various needs. Here the tourist can find picnic areas, camping sites, hotels, bed and breakfasts and boarding houses, there is even the warm hospitality of structures called malga (alpine summer houses).

The tourist basin of Santa Croce lake is interesting for those who want to combine a mountain holiday with sports; sailing, windsurf, kite surf, fishing, horseback riding and the unforgettable experience of flying by paragliding from the peak of Dolada sull'Alpago.

The entire valley of Alpago offers numerous cultural activities: The Museum of Natural History at Chies d'Alpago, the cimbian villages in the area of Pian del Cansiglio, the "G.Lorenzoni" Alpine Botanical Gardens, the Zanardo Ecological Museum and the "E. Servadei" Cimbrian Ethnographic Museum.
