Matteo Garrone was born in Rome in 1968, and after his art studies, he devoted himself soul and body to the world of cinema, where he debuted with his first feature film Terra di mezzo (1997). The critical success came in 2002 with The Embalmer (winner of the David di Donatello prize for best screenplay), but especially with Gomorrah (2008), based on the book by Roberto Saviano, it has won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and the David di Donatello prize. In 2018 he directed Dogman, with which he won Nastri d'Argento prize for Best Movie and Best Director and the David di Donatello prize for Best Screenplay, Best Movie and Best Director.
