Caorle

A “miniature Venice”, among alleys and small squares and frescoed houses

A quiet town located in the Upper Adriatic between Trieste and Venice, Caorle is not only a beach but it also has an ancient history which makes it a tourist destination full of attractions.

The special atmosphere that distinguishes Caorle comes from the pastel colors of the houses of the village, linked by narrow streets and alleys reminiscent of the nearby Venice. Ernest Hemingway dedicated some pages of his book entitled "Across the River and Into the Trees" to this picturesque landscape.

The old town is dominated by tilted cylindrical bell tower and cathedral, both are beautiful examples of Romanesque architecture. A long artificial reef accompanies the walks of tourists up to the church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Angel.

There is always a large turnout to the religious festival dedicated to this saint that is held every five years. The festival includes a solemn night procession and the lighting of the bell tower with fireworks.

The lively resort hosts important events for tourists. In the month of June there is the biennial Living Reef, an outdoor sculpture competition on the rocks of the waterfront that brings together artists from various sources and in September there is the International Festival of Street Theater.
