Cison di Valmarino

History, art and traditions are breathed at every step in this village

Cison di Valmarino is found in the province of Treviso, nestled in the valley between Vittorio Veneto and Follina, and is a member of the ‘Club dei Borghi più belli d'Italia' (association for small Italian towns of historical interest). In medieval times, the village was a political and administrative hub for the county of Valmareno. Tucked away in the hills of Via del Proseccoand overlooking the village of Cison is the Brandolini Castle, a fortification built by the Da Camino family in the twelfth century and then transformed by the Brandonlini Family.

At the heart of the historic centre is Piazza Roma, which is surrounded by buildings of architectural importance: the Santa Maria Assunta church with its noble eighteenth-century architecture, Palazzo Barbi, which houses the town hall, the Loggia Theatre and the Vintage Radio Museum. Also worth a visit is the Ancient Brandolini Wine Cellar complex, originally a stables and later converted to store agricultural produce, where, in August, part of the "Artigianato Vivo" (Live Crafts) is held, a famous festival which fills the streets of the town with craft products, shows and stands selling food and drink.

Cison is the perfect destination for peaceful nature walks such as the ‘vie dell'acqua' (literally, ‘ways of the water') which traces the village's history of craftsmanship along a route that travels up the valley of the River Rujo to reach old wash houses, drainage channels and ancient mills. Along the way, you can admire the lush nature, taking you as far as the Penne Mozze woods.
