From June 18 to September 4, 2022, the "reigning" opera of Verona Arena, Aida, Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece about the slave princess of Ethiopia in Egypt, will be staged for 11 performances in the golden dreamlike version imagined by Franco Zeffirelli and enhanced by the iconic costumes of Anna Anni.
The choreography is curated by the legendary Russian dancer and choreographer Vladimir Vasiliev.
Composed in 1869 to mark the inauguration of the Suez Canal, ‘Aida’ by Giuseppe Verdi narrates the love affairs of the young Aida, daughter of the king of Ethiopia but delivered as a slave to Amneris, daughter of the Pharaoh of Egypt. In love (mutually) with the valiant Radamès who is betrothed to Amneris, Aida will follow him until their tragic death, showing him love and fidelity.
The first performance of Aida, staged by the tenor Giovanni Zenatello, was a success with the cosmopolitan audience in the amphitheatre experiencing an evening of unique emotions.
