Description

The Monumental Garden of Valsanzibio was built in the 17th century by Barbarigo, one of the most important and wealthy families of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, and was designed by top Vatican architect Luigi Bernini. This magnificent place was conceived as thanks to God for saving the populace from the terrible plague of 1631, and until the mid-18th century it was reachable via canal. Visitors today can walk among secular trees from all over the world, view countless fountains, water games and sculptures, and discover a unique 400-hundred-year-old boxwood labyrinth. www.valsanzibiogiardino.com

Excellence of the villa: The estate features 10 hectares of historic gardens featuring a path of salvation, inspired by Saint Gregorio Barbarigo and designed to purify the visitor's soul as they move through the garden. The gardens feature the incredible Diana Pavillion, a four centuries old original boxwood Labyrinth, Rabbit Island, Monument to the Time along with more than 70 statues (of the Merengo), fountains, fisheries, water games and over 300 different species of plants, of which over 60% are original, planted between 1664 and 1669. The Monumental Garden of Valsanzibio is a unique example of a perfectly conserved baroque allegorical garden in Veneto - it is an open-air museum that has received several accolades and is considered an Italian national treasure, having been officially one the most beautiful and important historic gardens in the world.

Excellence of the setting: Find the Monumental Garden of Valsanzibio in the Euganean Hills Natural Park, approximiately 50 minutes driving from Venice, and only 6.5 km from the highway exit at Terme Euganee. It is positioned in an area rich in thermal springs and is well-known for health-related tourism. Bordering the gardens to the east you'll find one of the most prestigious golf courses in the region; the ‘Golf Club di Padova’ featuring a 27 hole course (www.golfclubpadova.it
