The wide variety of high-quality Venetian products derives from the union of the rich, fertile land and the hard work and effort of those who cultivate it . Autumn is the season that treats us to some irresistible delicacies that will tempt the palate.
It is time to overload yourself with chestnuts, from Marrone di Combai and Marrone del Monfenera (both PGI products) to Marrone di San Zeno PDO . Try them roasted, boiled, salted, or even add them as a special ingredient to an Italian delicacy.
Warm them up with pasta and beans: this is by far one of the most popular recipes and has strong links with Venetian traditions. Obviously Fagiolo di Lamon of the Vallata Bellunese PGI will be the main ingredient of this dish.
From October to March the undisputed ‘main attraction’ within a Venetian meal is radicchio, which is sometimes known as Italian chicory. Here are four examples of this autumnal product, all labelled as PGI: Radicchio Rosso di Treviso (both unripe and late-growing varieties), the Radicchio Variegato di Castelfranco , the Radicchio di Verona and the Radicchio di Chioggia.
Autumn is also the time for grapes and Venetian wines: from delicate whites and full-bodied reds to elegant raisin wines. There isn’t one that is better than the other.
You can also expect to find some other products such as Soprèssa Vicentina PDO , rice from the Po Delta and Vialone Nano Veronese PGI , Prosciutto Veneto Berico-Euganeo PDO , cheeses, oil and honey whilst enjoying your holidays. A feast of flavours that will delight your palate.
