The opera season at Verona Arena reaches its 97th edition. Great international artists together with the artistic and technical facilities of the Verona Arena Foundation, artists and supporting actors are preparing to stir great emotions in spectators at the Roman Amphitheater.
The Arena season begins with a work much appreciated by the public at the Roman amphitheater: “La Traviata”, with a performance to be seen. The programme continues with great Arena classics in the most evocative settings.
As usual, the next evening after the inauguration, Giuseppe Verdi's “Aida” will debut on the impressive stage conducted by Zeffirelli. At the end of July and in August Aida will also be performed, in the classic edition of 1913.
The third title on the programme is “Il Trovatore”, also conducted by the master Zeffirelli, followed by “Carmen” in the production signed by the famous Argentinean director Hugo de Ana.
From 10 August for 5 evenings (10, 16, 23, 29 august and 06 september) “Tosca” is presented in its 2006 staging by Hugo de Ana, who also leads the direction, costume design and lighting.
Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” will be performed on August 11th, the great musical fresco of medieval poetry is back for the third time within the Arena Amphitheatre’s antique stone walls.
In addition to these magnificent works, the 2019 Opera Festival programmem, on Sunday 4 august, offers Plácido Domingo 50 - Arena Anniversary Night at the Arena di Verona.
