Canova beyond the artist; beyond the brilliant sculptor acclaimed by his contemporaries as the new Phidias; beyond the Maestro who, without ever renouncing his modern genius, exalted the ancient in his sculpture and, today as much as yesterday, enchants with the eternal and timeless beauty of his works magically imbued with the beating heart of life.

Bassano del Grappa, one of the most significant places for getting to know the great artist, marks a fundamental moment in official celebrations for the 200 years since his death, with a large and original exhibition (from 15 October 2022 to 26 February 2023 at the Civic Museum of the city), which will take visitors "beyond" the Canovian aesthetic universe.

The exhibition will offer an image of the magnificent sculptor, that is both fascinating and contemporary, revealing the man, the collector, the diplomat, the protector of the arts; one of the most significant personalities of the cultural and political world between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

A story in images, where the rich artistic and documentary heritage of Canova held in Bassano, custodian of one of the largest and most important foundations in the world for the study and knowledge of the great sculptor, is flanked by national and international loans.

The exhibition is developed along three major themes: "Canova, man and artist", "Canova and Europe", and "Canova and History".

The exhibition will be open every day, from 9.00 to 19.00.
