On August 5th opens the dance section of the 73rd edition of the Estate Teatrale Veronese review the company Nuovo Balletto di Toscana, directed by Cristina Bozzolini, with the show "Bayadère - The Kingdom of the Shadows".
A show full of suggestions, thanks to the music of Ludwing Minkus, to the choreography of Michele Di Stefano, to the original music of Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch and to the costumes of Santi Rinciari.
A contemporary Bayadère, light years away from the exoticism, the Brahmins and Pashas of the nineteenth-century archetype designed by Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus.
"Bayadère - as choreographer Michele Di Stefano explains -, is a ballet steeped in idealized exoticism, both in the melodramatic plot and in the aesthetics of the whole. In tradition, his most famous scene, 'The Kingdom of Shadows', is borderline on the edge between the real and the afterlife, where the shadows that appear are as if frozen in their tragic condition and the movements they make are ritualistic. The act expresses a vision that goes beyond the context and opens to a passage of pure movement, abstract and lucid in its formal simplicity. Conceived for an ensemble of very young talents, this new 'kingdom of shadows', so mysteriously full of suggestions, belongs to the exceptional times we are living in, because it refers to something lost and something possible at the same time, something that concerns the presence of bodies and the interweaving of their trajectories, in a space that is no longer just an afterlife but a present that wishes to be reinvented with delicacy and passion".
