Winter at the lakeside. Why not?

Seven pools of water, seven pearls set in the landscapes of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When the great cold arrives the lakes are adorned in sparkling snow crystals and around them everything is transformed into a true paradise made especially for those who love to recharge their batteries in the silence of nature. Relax and enjoy...

Misurina Lake

Nicknamed the "Pearl of the Dolomites", the lake is located at 1,754 meters above sea level and in winter becomes a spectacular body of frozen water. Take a seat along its banks and enjoy the view of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the Cadini, the Sorapis and the Cristallo peaks. Inhale deeply, close your eyes and dream.

Alleghe Lake

This small body of water is located at the foot of the majestic Monte Civetta and its waters freeze almost completely during the coldest winters. The walking route that runs along its banks is charming: an easy flat loop that you can do in about two hours and if you want you can stop in the nearby town of Caprile.

Santa Caterina Lake

Also known as “Auronzo Lake”, this picturesque lake is located in the Ansiei Valley. The walking route running alongside it is easy and very romantic, while fitter visitors can take the cycle-pedestrian path that leads to Giralba (about eight kilometres).

Centro Cadore Lake

A lake that everyone calls "Calalzo Lake", in winter this artificial body of water seems to be taken from a fantasy film. If you want to take pictures, just go to the panoramic terrace of the Roccolo di Pieve di Cadore Park: from there you will have a wonderful view of the lake and Monte Tudaio.

Mosigo Lake

This year it was the filming location for the famous RAI series “Un Passo dal Cielo”. This tiny lake is a ten minute walk from the centre of San Vito di Cadore. A bit of advice? Sit on a bench and find peace while silently admiring the Antelao, the King of the Dolomites, the mighty "pyramid" standing 3,264 meters high.

Federa Lake

This is one of the most scenic lakes in the Alps but the path to reach it, which starts from Cortina d'Ampezzo, can be quite challenging. Your effort will be rewarded by the fairytale scenery unfolding before your eyes with the Croda da Lago and Becco di Mezzodì peaks in the foreground, while the Ampezzo valley will be behind you.

Santa Croce Lake

Easily accessible from the A27 motorway (Fadalto exit), in winter the Santa Croce lake offers charming landscapes. From its banks, thanks to a simple walking route, you can reach the Oasis of Sbarai and enjoy some birdwatching. In fact, many species of birdswinter here such as the little grebe, the northern lapwing, the reed warbler, the sedge warbler and the European penduline tit.
