Puccini's opera is back, characterized by Franco Zeffirelli's appreciated direction and sumptuous scenes, brought on stage with this staging created in 2010 by the late director. The opera is set in China, in Beijing, in a mythical "fairytale time".
The protagonist of the drama is the beautiful princess Turandot with a lonely soul because of the weight she has to bear: in her is the spirit of one of her ancestors raped and killed. This is the reason that unleashes in Turandot discomfort and horror towards men. But destiny will succeed in breaking Turandot's heart and a passionate kiss will crown the love between the beautiful princess and Calaf, ousted Tartar prince, daring paladin of cupid.
Struggling and passionate, Giacomo Puccini's latest opera is certainly one of the most beautiful love fables of all time. Puccini's Turandot, that includes one of opera's most famous arias, "Nessun Dorma", beginns outside the Imperial Palace in Peking, where a mandarin reads an edict to the crowd: any prince seeking to marry the princess Turandot must answer three riddles.
