Natura in Posa is the exhibition developed in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna. Museum Santa Caterina will host this important exhibition, where masterpieces from the Austrian Museum, including Flemish masterpieces from the 16th and 17th centuries, will be presented together with paintings from the most important Venetian museums.
The subjects of these masterpieces, as extraordinary vanitas, floral compositions, refined market scenes and iconic symbols, remind the audience of the transience of life and its pleasures, like butterflies.
The exhibition shows the evolution of the pictorial genre of the “still life”, which reached its peak around the 17th century, and represents, today, one of the most influential sources of inspiration for major contemporary photographers, who reinvent and reinterpret the topic with personal and visionary allusions.
The masterpieces of artists like Francesco Bassano, Lodovico Pozzoserrato, Jan Brueghel il Vecchio, Pieter Claesz, Willem Claesz Heda, Jan Weenix, Gerard Dou,EvaristoBaschenis, Gasparo Lopez dei Fiori and Elisabetta Marchioni, join the most iconic photographs.
The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
