It all gets underway on Saturday 8th February with the traditional Venetian “party on the water”, opening the crazy amorous dances in Rio di Cannaregio, with two shows at 19 and 21. On Sunday 9th February, the water procession continues, starting from Punta della Dogana at 11am and arriving in Rio di Cannaregio, where there will be food and wine stands offering traditional Venetian delicacies.
As always, St. Mark’s Square will be an open-air stage for lots of events and performances. Brand new for 2020: the stage will be officially opened on Friday 14th to celebrate Valentine's Day. From Saturday 15th to Tuesday 25th February, the heart of Venice will be hosting playful events and parades, characterised by the theme of love, masks and crazy shows, allowing the public to immerse themselves in the magic and colours of carnival, not to mention the live music and DJ sets.
The procession of the “Carnival Marys” will take place on Saturday 15th February, while the “flight of the Angel”, Linda Pani, will open the Carnival celebrations in the square on Sunday 16th February. The “flight of the Eagle”, on the other hand, is scheduled for Sunday 23rd February. The grand finale will be held on Tuesday 25th February, when the huge banner featuring the lion of St. Mark is traditionally flown, bringing the Carnival to a close and saying goodbye until 2021.
