Unpublished combination of two single acts: Il Segreto di Susanna e Suor Angelica. The Arena di Verona Foundation has chosen an unprecedented show to open the opera season of 2022.
The double title proposed at the beginning of the calendar combines two very different one-acts, but united by a great protagonist: “Susanna's secret” and “Suor Angelica”.
"Susanna's Secret" is a fun and elegant work by the Italian-German Wolf-Ferrari composed in 1909, where the smell of tobacco in the living room threatens the marital peace of a rich Piedmontese couple. The landlord suspects that the smell comes from the clothes of an alleged lover of his young wife, but after various ups and downs he discovers that his wife's secret is that she herself smokes. With all due respect for family harmony, the couple makes peace by smoking a cigarette together.
