The 59th International Art Exhibition, curated by Cecilia Alemani and entitled "Il latte dei sogni/The Milk of Dreams" will take place from 23 April to 27 November 2022 (pre-opening 20, 21, 22 April) at the Giardini site, the Arsenale venue and various other locations around Venice.
The exhibition takes its name from a book by Leonora Carrington in which, as the curator explains, "the surrealist artist describes a magical world in which life is constantly reinvented through the prism of imagination and where one is allowed to change, transform, and become others. The exhibition proposes an imaginary journey through the metamorphosis of bodies and the definitions of mankind».
The exhibition will focus in particular on three thematic areas: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses; the relationship between individuals and technologies; the links that are intertwined between bodies and the Earth.
The 59th International Art Exhibition will then present, as usual, the National Participations with each country’s exhibitions in the Pavilions at the Gardens and the Arsenale, as well as in the historic centre of Venice. Again for this edition, there are selected Collateral Events, proposed by international organizations and institutions which will stage their exhibitions and initiatives in Venice.
