Love is in the air

Saint Valentine’s Day in Veneto

Here are some ideas for celebrating the most romantic day of the year: a fairytale weekend in Venice or Verona, at a spa in the Euganean Hills or on Lake Garda.

It’s easy to fall in love in Venice. On Saint Valentine's Day, the most romantic city in the world becomes the perfect scenario for the celebration of love with dreamlike experiences. You begin with a gondola ride accompanied by a serenade, before mooring at a traditional restaurant for a candlelight dinner and then you conclude the evening in a historic building with views over the Canal Grande. However, nothing is more romantic than strolling through the streets of Venice by night and losing yourselves in the hidden corners of the city, which evoke the clandestine meetings of Giacomo Casanova with the ladies of the Venetian aristocracy.

Verona, the “city of eternal love” still shrouded in the myth of Romeo and Juliet, is transformed for Saint Valentine with the Verona In Love Festival. From 12 to 16 February, the historic centre will sparkle with hundreds of lights, decorations and hearts. The programme also includes guided tours, reduced price entry to museums, themed treasure hunts and much more. Over the same period, Verona will also host Dolcemente In Love, with traditional local markets, music and lots of other events. It’s hard to find a sweeter experience! And for those who like to run, even in pairs, on Sunday 16 February, the Romeo and Juliet Half Marathon returns: the most romantic marathon in the world.

The prestigious Baths of Abano and Montegrotto are authentic jewels of nature and relaxation in Veneto.  These towns are two oasis of therapeutic water among the most curative and famous in the world, immersed in the Euganean Hills Park.  The place is perfect for a wedding or a romantic escape of wellness, culture and excellent food and wine. Castles, walled city aging back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, like the famous Arquà Petrarca – which hosted the poet Francesco Petrarca, and then the famous Venetian Villas: all places that lend themselves to become wonderful locations for wedding receptions and celebrations.

Another unmissable destination is Lake Garda, which offers Lake Garda in Love for the weekend devoted to lovers, a romantic event involving the towns of Borghetto di Valeggio sul Mincio, Peschiera del Garda, Castelnuovo del Garda, Lazise, Bardolino, Garda, Torri del Benaco, Campo di Brenzone sul Garda and Malcesine. Romantic strolls, music, local product tastings and craft markets: a host of opportunities to discover Lake Garda on the most romantic weekend of the year.
