Tour of Valpolicella

The Valpolicella valley, renowned for its famous Amarone wine, the Lessini Mountains, with their natural heritage protected by the Natural Park of Lessinia, and Unesco World Heritage Site Verona, city of art and culture, are the backdrop of this exciting cycling route.

Traffic is inevitable only in the first part of the route toward Valpolicella; you then leave the main road in Fumane and get on the beautiful Cavalo-Breonio road. The ride is smooth and pleasant along diverse landscapes: the city of Romeo and Juliet in the distance, the Shrine of Our Lady of Salette perched on the cliff, and expanses of precious vineyards.

The climbs along the way are never particularly harsh, although very long and continuous.The toughest stretches are those around Fane.

Here, however, is where you can see the natural bridge of Veja, the most important natural monument of the Lessinia region. Catch your breath and then cross the median plateau to go tackle the climb from Bosco Chiesanuova to the tourist town of San Giorgio, which is as high as it gets for this tour; Nordic skiing can be enjoyed here in the colder months.

The descent is about thirty kilometers and follows the Velo Veronese ridge ending up in Mezzane di Sotto. One more effort to go over the Montorio Hills and you arrive in Verona.
