Pieve di Cadore

Welcome to the town of Tiziano Vecellio

Located at the crossroads between the valley of the Piave and the valley of the Boite, Pieve di Cadore boasts the title of City of art and the walled city of the Veneto region. This pretty mountain town has ancient origins and the surrounding area shows Paleovenetian, Roman and Celtic findings that are currently exhibited in the Archaeological Museum housed in the prestigious Building of the Magnificent Community of Cadore.

This town, the birthplace of the great painter Tiziano Vecellio, is the historical and social capital of the entire area of Cadore. Tourists who come to this town can admire the birth house of Tiziano Vecellio that has been declared a national monument. Tiziano's art such as the precious masterpiece of "La Madonna con Bambino" (The Madonna and Child) can be found in the church of Santa Maria Nascente. Other very interesting places are the sober Jacobi-Solero building with its valuable wood ceilings and stone archways and the Sampieri-Vallenzasca Building, located next to the birthplace of Tiziano, with a fresco that is said to have been painted by the Master when he was still a child.

The area of Cadore is known worldwide for the production of eyeglasses and tourists who come to Pieve can find the Eyeglass Museum that is housed at the COS.Mo Building. This museum exhibits splendid collections of eyeglasses, cases, optical instruments, binoculars, telescopes, and traces the history of this valuable tool from the Middle Ages to the present.
