The museum is only open in the summer and can be reached on foot or with the paid shuttle service.

Monte Rite can be reached from Passo Cibiana along an accessible dirt path about 7 km long. Once you reach the top, a few steps from the Dolomites Refuge, you will find the Messner Mountain Museum Dolomites, better known as the Museum in the Clouds.

This space tells the story of exploration and mountaineering in the Dolomites. During your visit you can admire photos, paintings, works of art and artefacts to discover the true essence of the mountains and the Dolomites.

From the museum's observatory, a glass and steel structure rising out of the rocky terrain, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. It stands at 2,181 metres above sea level and from here you can admire the peaks of Civetta, Pelmo, Sorapis, Antelao and all the Marmarole. In fact, the museum stands in a unique and spectacular location and was set up inside an ancient fort used as an outpost during the Great War, due to its strategic and dominant position.

Do not miss Cibiana di Cadore, the small town known for the colourful murals that decorate the outside of its houses. Along a winding walk through its picturesque alleys, the painted walls reveal the history of some of the trades and arts of ancient mountain life.
