On the Marmolada you can discover and relive the bitter experiences of the soldiers who fought during the First World War. The Museo Marmolada Grande Guerra (Marmolada Great War Museum) is located at the highest altitude in Europe (3,000 metres). It is connected to the Serauta destination station (second section) of the cable car connecting Malga Ciapela to Punta Rocca (3,265 metres), and is very close to the battleground's front where the Italian Army and the Austrian- Hungarian Army fought in the years between 1915 and 1918.

The museum, offering original photographs of the period, weapons, uniforms, munitions and everyday objects used by the soliders in the trenches, bears witness to the skirmishes between ice and rocks. A miniature replica of the "City of Ice" allows you to examine the trenches dug in the ice by the Austrian Army, while mixed media traces a path of great emotional impact.

Outside the museum you can visit the caves, tunnels and trenches both in the fortress at Punta Serauta and Forcella Vu, in the so-called "sacred monumental area" aimed at honouring the memory of men and heroes who fought in honour of their homeland. From the museum's big windows, you can admire a view of some of the Dolomites' most beautiful peaks.
