The Garden of the Giusti Palace, situated very close to the Arena's amphitheatre, is one of the jewels of Verona's Renaissance. Its history begins during the 15th century, when it was the property of the Giustis, a family of wool merchants of Tuscan origin. Through centuries and wars, every effort has been made to preserve the garden and bring it back to its former glory, even during the World War II, when many of its precious trees were suffered serious damage.

The garden begins on a plain and then climbs with steps and pathways to the first slopes of the San Pietro hill, which overlooks Verona. Following the path lined by cypress trees, we discover flowerbeds, antique statues, and the beautiful labyrinth built in 1786 to replace the original one dating back to 1500. From the foot of the hill, you ascend by crossing terraces and stairways which gradually lead to artificial caves embellished by refined architectural decorations and water features in pure Renaissance taste.

On the top of the hill, architectural beauty blends gradually into nature: from here you can admire the unique panorama of the city of Romeo and Juliet.

Few people know that this Garden was visited and celebrated over the centuries by famous historical and cultural figures, including Cosimo De’ Medici, De Brosses, Addison, Emperor Joseph II, Goethe, Mozart, Carlo Felice of Savoy, Suares and Gabriel Faure
