The 66th International Festival of Contemporary Music: Out of Stage will take place from 14 to 25 September 2022, directed by Lucia Ronchetti and offering a broad perspective of contemporary musical theatre and the role of new technologies and multimedia, complete with virtual reality and augmented reality technology applied to sound in new forms and genres, encoded by the composers involved in the festival.

“The Festival will present new works of experimental musical theatre commissioned from Simon Steen-Andersen, Helena Tulve, Michel van der Aa, Paolo Buonvino and Annelies Van Parys, as well as Italian premieres of new projects by Alexander Schubert, Rino Murakami and Ondrej Adámek, co-produced with other European institutions.

The musical theatre work ‘Jules Verne’ by Giorgio Battistelli, Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement 2022, will be staged in a new production featuring the Ars Ludi performers (Silver Lion 2022) at the inaugural evening of the festival in the Teatro la Fenice (...).

The festival programme also includes some classics of "instrumental theatre" by Mauricio Kagel and Georges Aperghis, and works by renowned composers in this field such as Carola Bauckholt and François Sarhan" (Lucia Ronchetti).
There will be the voices of Kurdish-Iranian composer Mehdi Jalali; Afro-American Yvette Janine Jackson; Klein, the London-based Nigerian performer; and the American composer and producer of Taiwanese origin, X. Lee; the Florence-born composer of electroacoustic music, Daniele Carcassi; and the group of Native American composers participating in the Shenandoah Conservatory collective project.

The collaborative partnership with Rai Radio3 for the broadcast of the "Music Lessons" sessions is back again - live from the Sala delle Colonne, the venue of the Biennale, with Giovanni Bietti and produced by Paola Damiani.
