With Anselm Kiefer, contemporary art enters the Doge's Palace in an exhibition that will be the centrepoint of the fifth edition of MUVE Contemporaneo, a biennial exhibition of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia that focuses on the relationship of contemporary art with museums.

As part of the celebrations for the 1600 years since the foundation of Venice, the long-awaited installation of Kiefer, one of today’s greatest living artists, will be set up under a title taken from the writings of the Venetian philosopher Andrea Emo: These writings, when they are burned, will finally give some light.

The series of paintings created specifically for the Doge's Palace during 2020 and 2021, is displayed throughout the space and magnificence of the Sala del Scrutinio, in strong contrast with the thirty-three monumental canvases of the ceiling and the heroic value of the entire decorative series of the Palace, to underline the role of contemporary art in a reflection on universal themes, which transcends Venice to open up to current philosophical issues.
