The most comprehensive exhibition ever organised on the work of Tina Modotti (1896-1942), one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, will be held in Rovigo until 28 January 2024.

More than 300 works, including images, films and documents, reconstruct Tina Modotti's photographic work: from architecture to still lifes, from the story of everyday life for working class, farmhands, factory workers, children and women, right up to the mutation of the suburbs with the arrival of modern life.

While her first steps as a photographer were still influenced by the great American photographer Edward Weston, whom she served as assistant and model in the years of the Mexican Revolution, Tina Modotti's work soon acquired its own distinct personality, both in the choice of subjects and in their representation.

As often happens, after her death in 1942, her work was forgotten for many years, until 1977 when the MoMA in New York dedicated to her an important retrospective that marked the rediscovery of her work and confirmed her role as a great protagonist of the 20th century.
